The 2005 Massachusetts State Auctioneers Association Spring Convention was held on May 22 nd and 23 rd with 44 members and guests in attendance at the Cranwell Resort Spa and Golf Club, located in the beautiful Berkshires section of Massachusetts in the town of Lenox. The lavish Cranwell Mansion was built in the late 1800’s and sits upon a 380 acre estate setting.
The activities of day one commenced with an 11:00 am tee time as members enjoyed 18 holes of golf upon Cranwell’s championship course while others relaxed or indulged in the spa facilities.
The evening’s festivities began at 5:00 pm with a cocktail reception on “The Rose Terrace.” Dinner was served in the “Grand Ballroom” followed by opening ceremonies, the introduction of guests Dennis Kruse, CAI of Auburn, Indiana also Sue Doyle, CAI and Rob Doyle CAI from Pleasant Valley, NY. The event was sponsored by the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald newspapers. Representatives Chris Hobin from The Globe and Will Huie from The Herald accompanied the members in a gala evening event and were presented with plaques of appreciation. Thank you sponsors!
Winners of the Advertising and Media Contest were then awarded trophies. Congratulations to Paul E. Saperstein Co. Inc, Holbrook MA for “Best Display Ad”, Auction Marketing Group, Shrewsbury MA for “Best Auction Photograph”, Aaron Posnik & Co. Inc, Springfield MA for “Best Auction Brochure” while Strategic Remarketing LLC, Worcester / Pittsfield MA won the award for “Best Web Site.”
Contestants of the bid calling championship engaged in live competition followed by a spirited fun auction. Stephen D. Paulin Sr. of Strategic Remarketing LLC was deemed the 2005 Massachusetts Bid Calling Champion with Michael J. Chambers of Chambers Auction Service LLC being first runner up.
Two members were inducted to the MSAA hall of fame; Joseph Finn of Newton MA and Ronald V. Maynard of Dunstable MA. As Joseph has passed on, his wife Harriet and son, Ross Finn accepted the award on his behalf. Ronald received this prestigious award personally with his wife Barbara as they attended this event.
Day two began with a 7:00 am call to a bountiful breakfast buffet in the “Music Room”. Dennis Kruse, CAI delivered two motivational and informative seminars on the subjects of “Energizing Auctioneers” and “Auction Advertising”. There was a break for an “Italian Feast” luncheon followed by a fantastic seminar presented by Sue Doyle, CAI regarding the successful marketing of Real Estate by the auction method. It was truly a day packed full of information and inspiration. The convention adjourned at 3:45 pm when old friends and new alliances bid farewell to one another. In conclusion the 2005 MSAA Spring Convention was an exceptionally successful and wonderful event.
