Annual Convention Held on Cape Cod
Chatham, Massachusetts – The Massachusetts State Auctioneers Association annual convention took place May 7th and 8th upon the grounds of the lavish Chatham Bars Inn Resort, on the Atlantic Oceanfront 297 Shore Road, Chatham Cape Cod Massachusetts.
The activities of day one commenced with an 11:09am tee time as attendees enjoyed 18 holes of golf at the highly acclaimed Captains Golf Course, Brewster MA while others relaxed upon the grounds of the resort property or indulged in the spa facilities. MSAA President Stephen D. Paulin Sr. of “Strategic Remarketing LLC”, Worcester, MA. opened the evenings ceremonies at 5:00pm with a cocktail reception that occurred in the Resorts “Harborview Room” overlooking the water. Hors d'oeuvres were passed while members and guest engaged in networking. Dinner featuring filet mignon and grilled swordfish was served followed by the awards ceremonies, the State Bid Calling Championship and MSAA fun auction. Presentation of awards, fun auction management, judging of bid calling and other convention duties were shared by MSAA Board Members; John Economou - Chairman, Lee MA; Paul Zekos - Vice President, Shrewsbury MA; Donna Brooks - Secretary, Leominster MA; Michael Salvadore Jr. – Treasurer, Warwick RI; Dale Schaetzke – Director, Shrewsbury, MA; Paul Maglio – Director, Middleton, MA; Stanley Paine – Director, Newton MA; Paul Traverse – Director, Milton MA; and George Collias – Director, Fall River, MA.
Special guests in attendance were NAA President- Elect William L. Sheridan, CAI, AARE, GPPA of Mason Michigan, ADESA Auto Auctions Corporate Executive Mr. Robert Brehm and his spouse Kathy of Framingham MA, Ms. Deborah Penta of Penta Communications, Westborough MA and Ms. Karen Dowell of the New England Real Estate Journal, Norwell MA. Sunday evening’s gala activities were sponsored by The Boston Globe Newspapers which was represented By Mr. Chris Hobin and Mr. John Alberts both of which are divisional sales managers of advertising.
The 2006 MSAA “Hall of Fame” award was presented to Mr. Edward J. Smith Sr. of Avenue Auction Sales, Quincy MA. Mr. Smith, a former MSAA president and treasurer who played an instrumental role in the creation of the present Massachusetts licensing law standards during his terms of service to the association.
Trophies were awarded to winners of the Advertising and Media Contest. Congratulations to Paul E. Saperstein Co. Inc, Holbrook MA for “Best News Paper Display Ad” and Strategic Remarketing LLC, Worcester / Pittsfield MA for winning the award for “Best Web Site” and “Best Auction Brochure”. The 2006-2007 MSAA Member Directory was also released at this event. A membership vote for best display ad recognized George Collias of Southcoast Auctions and Realty, Inc. Fall River MA for his attractive half page directory advertisement.
At a highpoint of the evening Mr. Michael J. Chambers of Chambers Auction Service LLC, Atkinson, NH was deemed the 2006 Massachusetts State Bid Calling Champion and will serve as this year’s ambassador to the MSAA. Mr. Tom Weitbrecht of Quincy MA was declared first runner up in that event. The evening concluded with a very spirited fun auction where the auctioneers sold items to the attendees. These items were procured by member donations as well as goods and services provided by The Boston Globe, The New England Real Estate Journal, and The Warren Group, (Banker and Tradesman).
Monday May 8th commenced with a sumptuous breakfast buffet provided by MSAA “day two” sponsors: The Boston Herald Newspapers. The plentiful selection made it difficult to resist a second trip! Informational seminars were delivered in the morning hours by Mr. William L. Sheridan, CAI, AARE , GPPA, on the subjects of “Working With Sellers” and “Bid Calling Techniques”. Lunch was served overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the seminars resumed following the midday meal. The well rounded afternoon concluded as Ms. Deborah Penta, a marketing expert for over 18 years, presented the attendees with a power point seminar on the topic of “Smart Marketing Techniques.” Old friends and new acquaintances departed feeling motivated, informed and energized. The MSAA has recognized that the overwhelming success of this year’s event was due to the provisions of the sponsors and the generosity of all supporters. The members of the association are appreciative of the efforts of those that assisted in making this year’s convention possible. |
